    WE ARE GOING VIRTUAL

In view of the worsening COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, the ESA and ISA Councils have decided that the Joint ESA-ISA Congress will be fully virtual. The main conference will take place on-line on Saturday 24th April and Sunday 25th April 2021, with pre-meeting Strabismus and Orthoptic Workshops on Friday 23rd April. We have an exciting programme, with first class speakers from all across the world, many of whom participated in our very well received Autumn Webinar Series.

Although we are sorry not to be able to hold a real live meeting, we will be making the most of the new possibilities presented by going on-line. We will be able to present the same Symposia, Round Table and Courses using the well-established Vimeo Virtual Conference Platform, which allows a high level of participation in questions and discussion. We have a full programme of invited speakers and e-posters.

An application has been made to the UEMS EACCME® for CME accreditation for both the live on-line event and its recording.

Registration is now open. We look forward to meeting you on-line for what should be an educational and entertaining meeting.

  • Dear friends and colleagues,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to attend the 41st Annual Congress of the European Strabismological Association to be held on-line from 23rd-25th April 2021. This year we are meeting jointly with our friends and colleagues from the International Strabismological Association, so this will be a special meeting with a worldwide flavour.

We have a first class scientific programme, with speakers from around the world. This will include a symposium on Strabismus Surgery in High Myopia, a symposium on Intermittent Exotropia around the World and a joint symposium with our French colleagues entitled ‘How I decide what to do and whether I have succeeded’, in which experts will each describe their approach to a particular strabismus problem. We will also have a symposium on Transposition Surgery, our usual Orthoptic Symposium and our ever-popular event, ‘A Case I have Learnt from….’. Our Round Table is on Investigation and Treatment of Paralytic Strabismus in Children and Adults. Our popular pre-meeting workshops on Orthoptic Education and  ‘What you always wanted to ask about Strabismus ....’ are now a regular part of our programme and last, but by no means least, we have an excellent selection  of your own work which will form a major part of the programme.

Although we will miss the beauty of the real Paris with its historic buildings, wonderful museums and of course French cuisine, we will try to preserve something of the Parisian experience on-line. We will also be making the most of the opportunities that being on-line offers. We will be using the well-established Vimoe streaming platform which allows a high degree of participant involvement in questions and discussion. The proceedings will be recorded and available to participants to revisit for a year after the conference. It will also be a lot less expensive that travelling to, and staying in, Paris. And we may be able to meet up for a real meeting in Paris in the future.

  • Dear Friends, Dear Colleagues,

Events of 2020 have changed our plans, and our ESA ISA Congress has gone virtual in 2021.
We are confident in its success! The scientific program is stunning !

We will be delighted to welcome you anytime in the future in Paris “Ville Lumière”, for you to enjoy the wonders of our pretty city, from the heights of Montmartre and Belleville to the Islands “île de la Cité” and “île Saint Louis”, from the Panthéon to the Eiffel Tower, and from Notre-Dame to the Louvre…

Enjoy our congress, and we look forward to welcoming you in Paris and in France.
Stay safe, stay tuned, stay connected.

    My best regards,
